Pope briefs nuncios on selecting episcopal candidates.

Vatican City:

In a June 21 address to apostolic nuncios, Pope Francis stressed the importance of finding bishops who will be good pastors and servants of the faithful in their dioceses.

The nuncios are diplomatic representatives of the Holy See, but in his talk the Pope downplayed their work as ambassadors and laid the heaviest emphasis on their role in identifying candidates for episcopal office. He urged them to be sure that “the candidates are pastors who are close to the people: fathers and brothers.”

“Be attentive that they aren’t ambitious, that they don’t seek the episcopate,” the Pope said. Candidates to become bishops should be poor in spirit, he said; he warned sternly against those who have “the mindset of princes.”

The Pope warned the nuncios against the same sort of “spiritual worldliness” in their own lives. “Giving in to the spirit of the world, which leads one to act for personal realization and not for the glory of God, is that kind of ‘bourgeoisie of spirit and life’ that urges one to get comfortable, to seek a calm and easy life,” he said.

The hierarchy has definitely made the right choice of Bishops…to shepherd the faithful of Mumbai, especially in the case of His Lordship Bishop Dominic Savio Fernandes.

These selections are made by seeking the inspiration of the Holy Spirit…thus making it a spiritual-intellectual decision.

When he was a priest…Fr. Dominic Savio Fernandes was always ridiculed, threatened, maligned but he remained committed to his priesthood…and above all to the Church. This is God’s way of blessing him.

Pope Francis recently admitted that there has always been a Power struggle since the very earliest of times in the Church. He also said he was aware that there were many disgruntled bishops and pastors who did not approve of his ways since becoming Pope. He has therefore requested the Laity to pray for these Bishops and priests so that they will become good Shepard rather than wolves. He has further emphasized that candidates for episcopal office be good pastors poor in spirit rather than the mindset princes to be.

I do hope not just the One, but both the episcopal candidates, will follow the true material ways of Pope Francis, transform and make themselves committed, available to the needs of people at all times. It is known to all that there are many Suffering in Silence due to their Cases and Letters stuck in Red Tape with the hierarchy.

The Silence of the Hierarchy and the Deanery speaks volumes on Truth,Transparency and Accountability in the Archdiocese of Bombay. Will the laity really get justice and empowerment from these PILLARS so to speak ? I Think We need a Department of Common Sense.

Silent Voice is doing commendable work of making known the Truth in the Archdiocese of Bombay
