Another side of Bishop Allwyn D’silva:

In Response to the post on SILENT VOICE, captioned; “Reply to the Article “Grassroots worker priests ordained as bishops”; a reader has responded/commented. We perceive, his comments need wider publication. Hence, publishing it as main post.

Feels sad to hear about the church land deals in Bhayander. Fr. Allwyn is not the only secular priest of the Archdiocese of Bombay who is embroiled in these sad shady issues. One thing for sure I know he was initially active in the Uttan Dumping Ground “andolan”… However when his cardinal intervened, he fizzled out and evaporated.
Personally as a lover of all things of Heritage Value… I respect him for having the guts to spend and spend much much money on the restoration of the Thane, St.John The Baptist Church. This church today is a tourist attraction. (all tour operators kindly take note). He was also recognized and presented an award for his limitless efforts to restore the Thane church to its pristine glory. He along with his parishioners, received an award from an NGO known as Mobai Gaothan Panchayatheart for conserving heritage and restoring the glory of our ancient churches in Mobai.

Fr.Allwyn (oops! Bishop Allwyn) as I know him is a nice person. I know he was asked to bow out of the Anti Dumping Ground Agitation by his mentor Oswald Cardinal Gracias who ironically today is the President of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences. and also appointed to the eight-member Council of Cardinals, informally the Council of Cardinal Advisers, established by Pope Francis to help with governing the Catholic Church and reforming its central administration.

We have many nice catholic secular priests who unfortunately find it difficult to work for God’s People and God’s Creation because of the pressures from of the hierarchy.

All said and done… Maybe with some power bestowed on him as a Bishop he will hopefully have the courage to bring out the good side of him.
