Goa archbishop joins leaders to offer Eid Mubarak

The festival is celebrated today.


Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao of Goa and Daman has joined state governor and chief minister to extended greetings to the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid.

“On behalf of the Catholic community in Goa and on my own, I have great joy in greeting our Muslim sisters and brothers on the occasion of their festivity of Eid-ul-Fitr,” his message said.

As they celebrate the revelation of the first verses of the Holy Quran and particularly cherish family bonds, we extend our hands in solidarity and fraternal love, the prelate said.

Such inter-religious solidarity will promote genuine justice, live in friendship with God, the source of all human relationship, with oneself, with others and with the whole creation, he said.

“We pray to God that this be the culture of all those who desire to be instruments of peace in this world. Eid Mubarak,” his message said.

Governor B V Wanchoo has extended his heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa and Muslim brethren in particular on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Goa is a land of religious unity, brotherhood, social harmony and cultural solidarity, he added and appealed to the people to retain and further enrich this tradition.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has extended his warm greetings to the people of Goa on the happy and auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The occasion brings joy and happiness on the culmination of the month of Holy Ramzan, a period of fasting, prayer and charity.

“May this festival strengthen our faith in oneness, compassion and tolerance and instill in us a sense of brotherhood and goodwill towards all. Let us rededicate ourselves on this day to the service of humanity,” the chief minister said.
