THE ARCHDIOCESE OF BOMBAY HAS BEEN BLESSED WITH TWO AUXILIARY BISHOPS!!!

His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed two Auxiliary Bishops for the Archdiocese of Bombay; Fr Dominic Savio Fernandes, Chancellor of the Archdiocese and Judge of the Marriage Tribunal, and Fr John Rodrigues, recently appointed Rector of St. Pius College, Goregaon, an Institute for the training of Candidates for the Priesthood. An announcement to this effect was made simultaneously by the Vatican and at the Archbishop’s House, Bombay at 3.30 p.m. on May 15, 2013.

The Auxiliary Bishops are appointed in the Dioceses to assist the Archbishop in the pastoral care of the people according to the stipulations of Canon Law and the specific arrangements in each case.

Bishop elect Dominic Savio Fernandes (59), who holds a degree in Canon Law, has served in several Churches in Mumbai, before he was appointed briefly as Secretary to Cardinal Ivan Dias, and then as Chancellor on the completion of his specialization. He is also the Chair Person of the Priests’ Council of the Archdiocese, Secretary to the College of Consultors, and the Episcopal Vicar for the Lay Apostolate.

Bishop elect John Rodrigues (46) after a brief stint as Secretary at Archbishop’s House, specialized in dogmatic theology in Rome, and has been Dean of studies in the Seminary. He is also Secretary of the Priests Council, and in charge of the Diocesan programmes for the Year of Faith.

The Episcopal Consecration of the two new Bishops is planned for Saturday June 29, 2013.

    Both have served as Secretaries to the Cardinal and will remain Secretaries forever. They know every trade secret, easy to control because of certain obligations. That was precisely why certain strong priests were not appointed earlier.
