    Dear Greg,

Fr Salu was a great soul. As a young religious I was inspired by him. He was in the missions of Talasari where he was beaten up and thrown in a ditch by Naxalites. He had a serious head injury. Luckily a Catechist recognized him and rushed him to a hospital in Mumbai. As soon as he was better after a while he asked to return to the same mission station. The Bishop did not send him bak to the missions but this inspired me a great deal and I asked my provincial to send me to Talasari. I was only a second year Novice then. Since I was the only Novice I was allowed to go there for a while. I lost track of Fr Salu after that.

Many years later, I received an award of appreciation from the Mumbai Catholic Sabha. Fr Salu was seated at my side. I even have a beautiful picture of the occasion with him at my side. Very recently in 2011 he published the second edition of my book “Our Lady of Perpetual Succour”. He was a living saint and we are fortunate to have encountered him. His illness too though very painful, he endured it with remarkable courage, faith and trust in god. He was an extraordinary person and a holy priest. May he rest in peace. Let us pray to him to give the diocese of Bombay good, holy priests.

    Lovingly,

    Dr. (Sr.) Mudita Sodder…..
