The 77th Annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Karjat was celebrated with much grandeur, this year.   The Shrine which is in the remote place of the Archdioceses with handful of parishioners had altogether a different look, and surprised many to witness the devotees flocking from far off places for this Solemn Occasion. There was an unexpected crowd cramped on the compound, unmindful of the intense heat of the sun. 13th October which was the proper Feast day, was marked as a day of prayer and reflection with the message of Fatima, led by the World Apostolate of Fatima members from Goa and Francis Barretto the Chairman. Fr. Frank Britto, the parish priest of St. Pius Church, Mulund was felicitated by Fr. Calistus Fernandes.  Fr. Britto was instrumental in continuing the Annual pilgrimage in the year 1978, from being stopped. The Annual Bulletin giving the details of the Shrine and all the relevant information relating to Our Lady of Fatima was released by Rev. Fr. Conceicao D’silva, Spiritual director for WAF Goa, along with a special Novena booklet in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. On Sunday 14th Oct, a large number devotees, besides the host Archdiocese of Bombay came from Vasai, Pune and   Nasik . Just like in the previous years, thousands of believers gathered around the Shrine and joined the procession which went around the main streets of the parish. The procession was accompanied by the band played by the St. Francis Vile Parle parishioners who added joy to the celebration. The people in the neighborhood waited for a glimpse of the image of the Our Lady of Fatima, with some showering petals. “I have been coming from many years since my childhood and now I bring my grandchildren with me every year to see image of the Blessed Mother because she brings countless blessings to my family,” Pereira from Marol said. “I don’t ask for miracles. I just pray for peace of mind and good health for my family,”  She added.  She also shared that her devotion had helped her cope with the sickness. The main celebrant Msgr. Francis Corriea gave an inspiring homily urging the faithful to ask Mother Mary for a new vision. ”We have come here at the feet of Fatima at Karjat to ask for karja (loan) that will help us to move ahead with a renewed Zeal in life” said Msgr Francis. At the special mass for the sick and aged, celebrated by Fr Donald Rodrigues at 4.00 pm, the participants were blessed and special prayers were offered  for healing. The people of the vicinity, along with the parishioners gathered in the evening for the concluding session of Bhajans and Kirtans.
