Prelate calls on youth to lead the nation

Mangalore:

Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary called on the youth to be effective leaders and help build the nation.

“Let go of inhibitions and differences caused by caste and religion. To bring change in the world, one has to change from within,” the prelate said.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Yuvajanotsava (youth festival) 2012 in Belthangady Friday.

More than 2,000 youth took part in the three-day convention held at the Most Holy Redeemer Church premises in the city.

The eighth Karnataka Regional Catholic convention was based on the theme “Transformed by faith – Transforming the World: Networking – Human Dignity – Employability – Caring for earth.”

The bishop said that many Catholics who have reached great heights are proud of their identity and are happily associate themselves with church and its activities.

He also said that there is a need to protect environment and lead a clean and healthy life.

Fr. Faustine L. Lobo, Pontifical Mission Societies National Director, lamented that today youths are facing different challenges and many remain absent from the society and world due to tight working schedules.

“The routine of the youth has changed and they neglect spiritual activities,” he added.

The convention began with a flag hoisting ceremony by Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy of Belthangady.

Bishop G. Mar Divannasios of Puttur and Fr. Franklin D’Souza, secretary of the youth office of Catholic Bishops Conference of India.
