Two Indian Nuns killed in Ghana bus mishap

The deceased belonged to the Holy Family Congregation.

Kochi:Two nuns from India were killed and an equal number injured when a bus overturned in Ghana in West Africa Sunday night, according to information received here Monday.

The deceased belonging to the Holy Family Congregation, headquartered at Mannuthi near Thrissur district in Kerala, were identified as Sr. Annie Elvina (67) and Sr. Kripa Paul (36).

The injured are Sr. Binsi Maria and Sr. Danya.

All the four were working in Ghana as part of their mission activities in the continent.

Sr. Elvina, who is the regional superior of the congregation in Ghana, was a retired professor while Sr. Kripa a nurse.

Sr. Prasanna Thattil, Superior General of the Holy Family Congregation and Sr. Udaya, General Council member, are rushing to Ghana.

Sr. Prasanna, who was in Delhi enroute to Ghana, said that all arrangements have been made for providing treatment to the injured nuns.

She said as per the information received by her, the condition of Sr. Dhanya is critical.

“We are also trying to bring bodies of the two nuns who died. We will be flying to Ghana at the next available flight after getting the visa,” she said.

Sr. Prasanna said the nuns were travelling from their workplaces to residence when the mishap took place. Five people, including the two nuns, had reportedly lost their lives in the accident at Kordiabe.

The remaining three deceased are reportedly from Ghana itself.
