Vatican City, March 4, 2012 (VIS).

Returning from the pastoral visit to the parish of St. John Baptist de La Salle at the Tower, at noon the Holy Father Benedict XVI facing the window of his study to pray the Angelus with the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s square.  Before the Angelus Benedict XVI recalled that the second Sunday of lent ‘ is characterized as Sunday of the Transfiguration of Christ ‘. The episode of the Transfiguration of Christ is attested by the evangelists Matthew, mark and Luke so concorde: Jesus on the mount with the disciples Peter, James and John, and was transfigured before them, his face and his clothes a dazzling light shone forth (…); a cloud wrapped the top of the mountain and it came a voice saying: ‘ this is my son, the beloved; listen to him! ‘. (Mc 9.7).

‘ The mystery of the Transfiguration – the Pope explained – is not detached from the context of the way that Jesus is walking. He is now definitely directed toward fulfilling its mission, knowing full well that, in order to arrive at the resurrection, must pass through the passion
